Definition of the feature

Reading a barcode (or QR code) in Paperless Forms allows you to read a label and add its information to a form automatically.

The reading, made by the device's camera, reads the majority of existing barcodes.

NB: This feature should support all possible types and if the type you are scanning cannot be read, please provide us with an image of the barcode and if possible the name of it (Example: Code 128, QR code, SCC-14, UPC-E, etc.)

Tips and Tricks

When attempting to read a barcode, make sure:

  • that the barcode is readable and complete

  • that the barcode is correctly positioned in the camera

  • that you zoom the camera as needed for easier reading (Windows only) or that the barcode is at least in 75% of the frame

  • that you have good lighting to see the barcode properly

Reading issues can occur with a barcode that:

  • is unreadable

  • has having missing parts

  • is poorly lit

  • is too small (minimum 75% space taken up in the frame)

  • is too zoomed (Windows only)

  • is badly centered in the camera (NB: it is however possible to read it from a certain angle)

  • is distorted (too wavy, too curved, etc.)

  • has an unsupported type*

*NB: This feature should support all possible types and if the type you are scanning cannot be read, please provide us with an image of the barcode and if possible the name of it (Example: Code 128, QR code, SCC-14, UPC-E, etc.)

How to use it

With the text keyword

In all the text fields and columns of your form, you will get an icon so that you can scan a barcode.

This icon will only be visible whenever the cell is empty.

  1. Tap in the cell to start entering text;

  2. As the cell is empty, the scan icon will appear. Press the icon;

  3. Scan your barcode. If necessary, zoom the camera for a better reading (Windows only) or get closer;

  4. Once the reading is completed, the barcode value will be automatically added to the cell, and the scan icon will disappear.

    If you want to make the barcode icon reappear, delete the value in the cell.

With the combo keyword

In all the combo fields and columns of your form, you will get an icon at the top of your list so that you can scan a barcode.

  1. Press in the cell to make a choice from the list;

  3. Scan your barcode. If necessary, zoom the camera for a better reading (Windows only) or get closer;

  5. However, if the barcode reading does not match any of the items in the list, you will get an error message and the cell will not fill.

  3. Scan your barcode. If necessary, zoom the camera for a better reading (Windows only) or get closer;
