Connecting to MySQL for Excel via ODBC

Software prerequisites


Get login information

  • Go to the Paperless website;

  • In the left menu, hover over the Admin section, then click on the BI Access subsection.


All the information you will need for the next steps can be found there.


If you don't see the BI Access subsection, please contact Datahex support so we can enable it.

Creation of the ODBC connector

N.B.: This procedure takes place in Microsoft Power BI and could have some differences if you use another software to connect to the data.

  • In your explorer, go to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools;

  • There, start the ODBC Data Source (64-bit) tool;

  • In the new window, click Add;

  • Select MySQL ODBC 8.0 Unicode Driver;

  • Click Finish;

  • Enter the name of your Data Source.
    This name should represent the name of your company so that you can easily find it later;

  • From the BI Access page of the Paperless website, copy and paste the Server, Username, Password and Database information. Click Test, then Ok;

  • Make sure your newly created data source is in the list and click OK;

Login in Excel

  • Open Excel

  • Go to data option -> Get data -> From other sources -> From ODBC

  • Choose the connector created previously from the list

  • From the BI Access page of the Paperless website, copy and paste the information for Username, Password (Make sure the login option on the left is database).

  • Choose the data to load
